The Diocese of Southwark is considering selling the vicarage, and downgrading it to something smaller, in a more 'desirable' part of the parish. The vicarage for St Matthew's Church has always been located at one of the first three houses on St Matthew's Road.
The house, near the church on St Matthew's Road is by far the most suitable property in the parish. It was specially converted in the late 1950s, to be suitable as a Church of England Vicarage. It offers ample space for a vicar and their family, as well as a lovely large garden.
The current vicarage has been there for more than a century. It's part of our history. It stands as a symbol of the Church's enduring presence in the parish. It's a living witness to the faithful service of a vicar residing among the people, close to the church, both physically and spiritually.
If you believe that the current vicarage on St Matthew's Road is the most suitable location for the vicarage, then join our campaign to save it today.
